Mizuho

There are close to 50 distilleries in Okinawa. The variation of flavor in the very few brands I have tasted so far - maybe five - is fantastic. Not being familiar with the land, a few books and the fancy of the labels on the bottles are the subjective criteria for selecting the next adventure. I started with the distilleries located in the most southern islands, because being way down into tropical territories, close to Taiwan, is fire to the imagination. This one does not come from so afar though. The standard non-aged Mizuno 30 degrees was referred to in a recent reading as having a banana like flavor. It does, and it is a pleasure with a alcohol attack being mellowed by soothing like flavors. There is an excellent promotional web site by the Okinawa prefecture that lists all the distilleries and brands in English. The next best thing after a book.
